Abstract:
Oenothera rosea L’ Hér. ex Aiton is reported for the first time for the island of Madeira. In Portuguese territories, nine taxa of the genus Oenothera L. (Onagraceae) are recorded. The species Oenothera rosea is present in mainland Portugal and in the Azores, as well as in the Canary Islands (Spain) and in the archipelago of Cape Verde (Republic of Cabo Verde). Similar to what is happening in other parts of the world, the presence of O. rosea on the island of Madeira, as well as other species introduced and properly reported over the last 10 years as naturalized, may pose a potential new threat to endemic flora and vegetation.
